Why do sailors watch the tides?

At high tides, the water is very deep. So boats can sagely come in and go out of a harbour. At low tide, the water is shallow and boats may get stuck if they try to enter the harbour. That is why sailors have to watch the tides very carefully before moving in and out of a harbour.
