Why did Vasco da Gama undertake sea voyage?


King Manuel I of Portugal chose Vasco da Gama in 1497 to lead an expedition to find a sea route to India. The person was because Portugal wished to control the valuable trade with the East. Vasco da Gama, a Portuguese sea captain thus became the first European to travel by sea to India. He arrived at Calicut in May 1498.
