What is genetic engineering? How it is useful in agriculture?

In 1972, US biochemist Stanley Cohen and Herbert Boyer began work on altering organisms by cutting up the DNA, the genetic material, of one organism and inserting genes form another. This is called genetic engineering. It has produced useful new plants.
