What is an oasis?

An oasis is a fertile green patch of land in the desert. Plants grow there by drawing water with their long roots from a well or an underground spring. The water is trapped deep down in the rocks beneath the desert. Palm trees and vegetables can be grown in an oasis. Some oasis are large enough to support a town.
