Manatees are the only vegetarian sea mammals. They have existed for about 50 million years, and are probably related to elephants.
Manatees can float upright in the water, and in the days of sailing vessels, sailors who saw them from a distance thought that they were mermaids…beautiful women who had tails like fish instead of legs.
